Service Description

It is estimated that 1 in 3 Women suffer with bladder issues at any one time. Although it is very common, this does not mean it is normal. Physiotherapy has been proven to be a vital component and recommended option for conservative management. Often these conditions are due to a problem with the pelvic floor muscles, sometimes they are weak, other times they are tight and have difficulty relaxing. A detailed physiotherapy assessment will help to highlight the root problem and then provide a bespoke rehabilitation program to reduce your symptoms and get you back to doing what you love. Going through pregnancy and childbirth (both vaginal and c-section) is a significant period of a woman’s life. It is not uncommon to experience aches and pains during pregnancy and afterwards that can be managed with physiotherapy. Conditions treated include: • Low or central back pain • Buttock pain • Pelvic girdle pain • Rib pain • Prolapse • Separation of the abdominal muscles (Rectus Diastasis) • Discomfort or pain from c-section scar or vaginal tear/ episiotomy • Urinary leakage when coughing, laughing, running (stress incontinence) • Urinary urgency or frequency with or without leaking. (Urge incontinence) It may be that you have recovered well but are keen to get back into activities such as running, climbing, cycling or hiking but you would like to know how to further strengthen your body and reduce the risk of injury. Over the long term, ongoing weakness in abdominal muscles or pelvic floor muscles after pregnancy can cause instability or core strength, leading to possible pelvic or back pain, or bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction. Pilates is an excellent form of low impact exercise that complements other forms of exercise very well. See below for further information.
